Good Flying Birds introduce themselves with Talulah’s Tape, a debut full of scrappy charm and melodic bite. First issued on cassette in early 2025 via Rotten Apple, the mixtape sold out quickly, drawing cult attention as a bright, messy, and heartfelt collection of songs. Now re-mastered and refined for LP and digital formats through Carpark and Smoking Room, it reveals a band already finding sweetness in sadness and humour in heartache.

Built from home recordings, the album shuffles between DIY punk urgency, jangling indie-pop, and moments of tender twee, held together by breakbeats, noise, and flashes of internet-age irreverence. Lyrically it spans both the intimate and the biting: buoyant opener ‘Down on Me’ reflects on healing trauma, ‘I Care for You’ drifts in wide-eyed affection, while sharper edges appear in songs like ‘Dynamic’ and ‘Glass’. Closing track ‘Last Straw’ stretches into nearly five minutes of harmonies, shifting rhythms, and restless guitar interplay, showing the band’s ambition beyond lo-fi pop convention.

By turns sugary, sardonic, and searching, Talulah’s Tape recalls the spirit of The Vaselines, Heavenly, The Pastels, and Guided By Voices, while also hinting at the eccentric intimacy of Connie Converse and Daniel Johnston. It’s a pastel-hued, jaggedly joyful first statement from a group stepping confidently into their own sound.
