Released a year after Magma, 1001° centigrades (initially titled simply 2) immediately showcases Christian Vander's drumming, previously understated. Klaus Blasquiz's martial vocals return, while the band evolves, notably with François Cahen on keyboards, Francis Moze on bass, and Teddy Lasry on horns. Simpler yet more structured than their first album, this second LP tells a genuine story: that of Rïah Sahïltaahk, who comes from Kobaïa to save Earth, before a tragic return. The lengthy title track, which occupies the entire first side, is driven by frenetic percussion, a volcanic piano, and devilish horns. "Iss Lansï Doïoa" flirts with jazz and repetitive avant-garde, while the more melodic "Ki Ïahl ö Lähk" leans towards jazz-rock with a beautiful electric piano solo. An album that's a little more accessible than its predecessor, but just as fascinating.
