Martin Denny’s Exotica Vol. III finally returns to vinyl, sourced from the original master tapes. First issued in 1959, this is widely considered one of the most essential entries in the pianist’s catalogue and remains a highly sought-after gem among collectors.

Denny is joined once again by his trusted ensemble: bassist Harvey Ragsdale, vibraphonist Julius Wechter (later of The Wrecking Crew), and percussionist Augie Colon, whose bird calls became a signature of the exotica sound. The iconic Sandy Warner — “The Exotica Girl” — also graces the cover once more.

Highlights include the propulsive opening take on Les Baxter’s ‘Jungle River Boat’, where tight vibraphone and percussion interplay are offset by Colon’s otherworldly calls, and the hushed sway of ‘Harbor Lights’, which drifts with a dreamlike, tropical haze. Rich in atmosphere and detail, Exotica Vol. III captures Denny at his peak, turning cocktail-hour listening into a transportive experience.
