Oruã, born in the heart of downtown Rio de Janeiro, channel the restless energy of their city into a sound that blends lo-fi indie rock, psychedelia, noise, afrobeat, and rich Brazilian traditions—from Luiz Gonzaga’s Pernambuco roots to classic psych rock.

Led by acclaimed guitarist and producer Lê Almeida, the band features long-time collaborators João Casaes (synths), Bigu Medine (bass), and Ana Zumpano (drums). In 2019, their music caught the ear of indie rock veteran Doug Martsch of Built to Spill, leading to Lê and João joining the band on tour and co-producing its 2022 album When the Wind Forgets Your Name for Sub Pop.

After extensive US and European touring, Oruã returned to Seattle to record their latest album Slacker with Built to Spill guitarist Jim Roth, who also contributes synth, guitar, and percussion. The record captures the band’s signature blend of deconstructed guitars and trance-inducing rhythm, delivering a raw, electrified sound steeped in both local roots and international experience.
