Rufus Wainwright pays full tribute to the music of German-American composer Kurt Weill with I'm a Stranger Here Myself – Wainwright Does Weill. Known for his operatic voice and theatrical presence, Wainwright immerses himself in Weill’s rich songbook, where classical, cabaret, and jazz traditions intertwine.

The project began with a series of Café Carlyle performances in 2023, marking Wainwright’s first full evening devoted to Weill. His admiration runs deep, tracing back to his early twenties when he obsessed over Teresa Stratas’ Weill recordings. While echoes of Weill have long coloured Wainwright’s own songwriting, this album represents a dedicated exploration of the composer’s repertoire.

Accompanied by the Pacific Jazz Orchestra under Chris Walden’s direction, Wainwright expands the arrangements with lush orchestral textures, bringing fresh drama and nuance to Weill’s timeless compositions.
