The Album Leaf returns with Rotations, a collection of ambient works that foreground Jimmy LaValle’s instinctive approach to sound. Rather than striving for a polished statement, these pieces capture moments of spontaneous discovery, blending synth textures, gentle rhythms and atmospheric tones.

LaValle describes the record as “a true reflection of my creative process—rooted in sound exploration, experimentation, and spontaneous response.” The result is music that feels unpressured and authentic, steeped in warm, nostalgic currents reminiscent of Boards of Canada and Ulrich Schnauss.

Emerging from San Diego’s hardcore and post-rock scenes, LaValle first shaped The Album Leaf with vivid instrumentals built from guitar, Rhodes and self-recorded experiments. Those early recordings, released through Tigerstyle and later through Sub Pop and City Slang, became touchstones for a generation of artists exploring melodic and meditative electronic music. With Rotations, LaValle strips away expectation to present his sound at its most direct and unadorned.
